Loved looking through this thread, inspired me to finally draw a mermay today.
Just another doodler.
Hey @aska thanks for the feedback! The foreground is meant to be one of those square concrete gutter holes on the side of the road, the ones that let the water run down so the roads don't flood (and that's why the ducks are in water).
I tried to make it look like concrete with the chips in it, but I don't think I pulled it off well enough, might have to come back to it.
This was my last of 4 illustrations for a Uni assignment. We were given 3 random words and had to create an illustration for them. The words for this one were "Duck, snack, gutter."
I am thinking of adding text "-and though they did not have the perfect things, it was a perfect night."
This is my best one out of the four, so let me know what you think!
@Jake-Parker Thanks for sharing! I've been trying to find examples of children's book cover processes for ages! (I have to do a couple for Uni at the moment) and this is super helpful! (and looks amazing!)
Have you coloured any covers traditionally? and if so, would you recommend using hand generated type for it?
Cool new design, just wondering if it'd be possible to open courses and buttons/links in new tabs?
Same with the forum. It might be just me but I just find it frustrating to have to click 'back' all the time, and find where I was up to.
I use an Epson 950 printer/scanner to scan mine, and they seem to be turning out pretty well.
Make sure you scan at a minimal of 300 dpi.
You can also play around with levels and curves in photoshop to tweak the colours.
*Edit: So I think it's probably google scan, though I haven't used it myself.
@smceccarelli these are AMAZING! I especially love the balcony jungle illustration. But they are all so so good.
My only suggestion is that the lettering for the little girl's speech bubbles looks slightly 'mouse drawn'? To me the writing looks a bit harsh and maybe you could soften it up. Though you are of a level much higher than me, so feel free to just ignore everything I say haha.
I really hope your agent is happy with these... otherwise I have no hope!
