Seeking feedback

  • hi everyone,
    i have just joined svslearn.
a few days back, i drew some cartoons and uploaded them in my social media. I got comments from my friends that I never expected (positive comments) But they are friends and they love me, so i didnt know how good actually these drawings are. So I have joined this forum because I feel here I will get an audience who knows more than me about illustration. I am uploading a few pics. I hope I get a genuine feedback from you experts and know where I stand in this wonderful form of art.
I am open to criticism, so you can say what you feel about my drawings. I just want an honest opinion. Also if anyone wants to suggest some editing, go ahead, I am eager to learn.

  • I like them my favourite is the girl on the cliff with the butterflies. I hope you did not recieve bad feedback from family and friends,I know if i was to listen to family comments I would never lift another paintbrush lol I am just learning about illustration myself so cant give any expert help.

  • @DOTTYP
Hey, thanks for the reply. I recieved all positive coments from friedns and lots of appreciation. So, I was surprised.
I kept n drawing one picture after nother and trying to lead it somewhere, give a storyline to it. The girl I have named, 'MOKO' and everyone seems to love her.

  • Hi and welcome.
I like the top Illustration the best, great sense of movement and storytelling. I know how hard it is being self taught and having a less than encouraging family when it comes to art (until i had a mental breakdown a few years ago LOL just kidding...sort of). My advice is keep going with it and study the fundamentals like perspective, anatomy, composition and colour etc... but also do stuff you enjoy and have fun, don't worry too much about criticism, it's not always good, it can discourage you.

  • @pn I am glad you got good comments ,your family must know a bit about art, that is nice.I like the sense of fun and colour in your work. nice to meet you and hope your enjoy yourself here.

  • @Christine-Garner Hey Christine,
First of all, I went through your work and you are an amazing artist. Someone like you have liked my drawing and commented on it, means a lot. Thank you.
The comments I got from friends in social media were positive, so I was surprised and wanted feedback from some experts to know were they actually good.
Yes, I am trying to take illustration seriously and is focusing on the fundamentals now. i like to tell stories and improve on this skill to tell stories in a more fun way.
    Thank you once again.

  • @DOTTYP
    Hey,
I went through your website now, you too are an amazing artist.
Thank you for the comments. Coming from you, it means a lot to me. Really.

  • @pn I'm glad you got positive comments from them :-) You have skills, just need to keep practicing and you can take it to whatever level you want trust me.

  • @Christine-Garner
Thank you. It means a lot. All smiles :)

  • Good job. It's not always easy to put yourself out there. I especially like the umbrella one. Also, I know how you feel. I get good feedback from my friends and family, which is nice and very motivating, but since they don't actually know about illustration - it's hard to really grow just off of that. ☺️
I'm not an expert in any sense of the word, but I will say the two things that have helped me get better over the last couple years:

    1. Practice a lot! Purposely decide to try things that are not comfortable and if you're drawing something that seems "off" to you, stop and figure out why. That was a big one for me - and where number 2 comes in handy.
    2. Learn as much as you can from other people. SVS learn, you tube, skill share, Lynda.com ... I follow tons of other artists, study their work, watch them paint, look for tutorials... there's so much out there. I wish I had been able to go to art school, but it's all available to me if I take the time to look. Good luck to you!

  • @pn Thanks PN that is a nice compliment, you have cheered me up I am feeling down today.

  • @Pamela-Fraley
