Daily sketches of the greats
-
On my blog, http://anthemsweet.blogspot.com/[link text] , I am doing a daily sketch from a master's drawing or painting. I do not have time to make a serious copy everyday, but I learn a lot from even quickish sketches. Here are some things I've done so far. I wonder if I should go back and re-copy artwork I've already sketched. It's interesting how when I look at work in the evening that I did in the morning, I see more of what needs changing.

This is one of the best exercises you can do - absolutely keep it up! You can also do do small color studies of paintings.
Some of my favorite old masters to copy from are Rembrandt, Rubens and wonderful Vermeer. And some of my favorite "new old masters" for copy are Dean Cornwell and Howard Pyle. -
Thats so good! keep up the good work, its inspiring!
